Thank you for taking the time to visit my website – my name is Swadeep Nigam and I am running for Regent, State University in District 3 because I strongly believe in education as a backbone to a productive and inclusive society. Higher education was my gateway to a long career in public finance and gave me the necessary tools to be an active participant in civic life.
My academic background includes advanced degrees, including a Master in Applied Economics, an MBA in Finance, and a Bachelor in Accounting with Honors.
Currently, I am Director of Business Development and Strategic Initiatives with Paul Padda Law, a top personal injury and criminal defense law firm in Las Vegas. Additionally, I serve as a Board Member of the Nevada Board of Osteopathic Medicine and a Fellow of the Federation of the State Medical Boards.
Throughout the last 35 years, I have served as a Commissioner of the Nevada Equal Rights Commission, a Board Member for the NAACP Las Vegas Chapter, a Board Member of the Kiwanis Club of Asian Americans Las Vegas, a Board Member & Secretary-Treasurer of the South Asian Bar Association, Advisory Board Member of the CCSD magnet school, Advanced Technology Academy.
In terms of civic engagement, I am the founding President of the South Asian Political Network Alliance (SAPNA), a non-partisan PAC focused on local and state politics in Nevada. As a graduate university student, I served as an elected member of the university’s Student Government and Graduate Council, which gave me my first experiences with the public policy within higher education. This set a foundation for my commitment to the growth and continued advocacy for higher education in the State of Nevada.
I am committed to excellence in education for all Nevadans and have done so through a copious donation for a scholarship I created in collaboration with Nevada Policy Research Institute – a think tank, for high school graduates seeking a college education. Additionally, I have donated funds to UNLV and for technology purchases for special education students at the local elementary school.
If given the opportunity to serve on the Board of Regents, I will make it a priority to represent the uniquely diverse population of students in Nevada. My background in public-sector finance, accounting, and economics, have positioned me to help assist students and other stakeholders, in tackling complex matters such as funding mechanisms and access to scholarship opportunities.
My experience in advocating for various communities in our society proves that I am the right candidate to make sure higher education in Nevada receives fair and honest representation.
On a personal note, I am happily married to Babli and have two grown children who were educated through the local public school system.
I look forward to serving you and the Southern Nevada community. Thank you for visiting my website and I look forward to your support.
